At Brighton, creating products that accessorize women stylishly from head to toe is our passion. As a Los Angeles-based, family-owned company, we started out by crafting men's belts that reflected a dedication to detailed handwork. Made of the finest leathers, each one had the feel of a one-of-a-kind piece from an artisan's workbench. Our company has grown over the years, evolving to also become a woman's accessory line with many types of products, yet our vision remains the same. Each season, our diverse and talented design team and artisans create new and modern versions of timeless accessories that are crafted in the unique Brighton manner, so that you can continue to collect fashion-relevant pieces that can be treasured a lifetime.
Today Brighton is the only major accessories line with coordinating head to toe products. You might choose a lipstick case to match a wallet, a handbag that matches footwear, or an entire collection consisting of coordinating multiple accessories. You may also create your own eclectic mix - choosing accessories from different collections.
In December of 2011, we launched our ecommerce site and did not announce it to anyone. We expected a few hundred orders that weekend and received ten times that many! Anytime you shop online, the people of Brighton will package your order beautifully, and you can also go behind the scenes to learn more about our products and their inspirations. Brighton Videos
We generously donate to a variety of national and local charities. In 2003 we started our annual Power of Pink fundraiser by creating accessories to support breast cancer charities. Brighton has donated over $9 million to date in an effort to leave this world a better place than we found it. Brighton Giving Back
The first Brighton-only store, Brighton Collectibles, opened in the Dallas Galleria and became a runaway success. Our designers created new product lines to enhance the style of every woman who loves Brighton: gifts for the home, eyewear, readers, luggage and gorgeous footwear designs to complement our collections.
Stores carrying Brighton men's belts often had a ladies' department, and they wanted great-looking fine leather belts for those customers, too. The Lady Brighton belt line was launched. Classic, timeless handbags were added in 1993. As more and more women began to collect and treasure Brighton pieces, we created wallets, small leather essentials, timepieces and fragrances to fill their accessorizing needs.
Out of the heritage of well-tailored, quality crafted men's belts, Jerry set out to make a new belt line with an impeccable pedigree, and the Brighton brand of men's belts was born. The belts were inspired by finely made English belts, and were named for the English city of Brighton.
Jerry became President of Leegin Creative Leather, and decided to run the business "from the heart" by personally servicing small boutiques and creating the belts with their own designers, in their own factories, to ensure high quality. Before the first Brighton accessory was made, Leegin had over 20 years of expertise.
Jerry Kohl and his girlfriend Terri Kravitz were high-school sweethearts who became specialty storeowners of a small boutique in Alhambra, California. Lee and Ginny were vendors who sold them jean belts. Two years later, in 1972, Lee and Ginny sold their business (called Leegin) to Jerry and Terri, who, by then, were husband and wife.
