a family of artisans
The joys of making something with your own hands – which today often seem like the lost arts – are practiced with great dedication at Brighton. After over 40 years, the real artists and artisans of our company continue to create the kind of crafting that many thousands of people who collect the products can continue to appreciate, even as the world speeds by.watch now: a closer look
behind the design
The idea is the starting point for each wearable piece of art. Drawing from a rich imagination, our designers sketch even the tiniest details of the piece as they envision it. Our designer Tom Clancy is known throughout the U.S. for creating accessories filled with hand-sketched art that are coveted pieces beloved by stylish Brighton collectors.
The Finest Materials
Our fine leathers are sourced from around the globe. The luxurious and beautiful Willer leather used for the Astara Top Handle Bag and the Cupid Mini Camera Bag comes from the Faeda tannery in the northern part of Italy.
Meticulous stitch-work is the hallmark of a fine quality handbag. Our talented leather artisans ensure that every stitch is even. There are six layers on the artistic flap of the Astara bag. The handwork takes over an hour, as the artisan positions die-cut foam and carefully stitches the dimensional quilted starburst design that Tom envisioned. There are over 450 stitches on the flap of each bag.
The sculpted silver frame which surrounds the red leather heart is crafted in the same manner as Brighton jewelry, using centuries-old techniques, an intricate step-by-step process and our clear lacquering process that prevents tarnishing – one of our proudest achievements – which took ten years to develop.
The beauty of a Brighton handbag is more than skin deep – the linings of our handbags are made of fine quality fabrics in custom prints created by our design team. The colors are chosen to complement the leathers-of-the-season.
