You might not expect this kind of note from me… my messages are usually lighthearted, but with October and Breast Cancer Awareness month upon us, for Patti, Jessie, Karyn and I – the fun-loving friends – our weekly conversation got serious. With each passing year, more and more people we know are being challenged by this life-threatening disease.

Every one of us is touched by the pain and heartache this disease causes. Just last week, Jessie’s dear friend Julie was diagnosed. They’ve been close since stroller-mom days, and want Julie to be here – to share the joys of watching their kids grow up together!

The most meaningful thing in life is time… with our families, friends and dearest loved ones. So it’s time to set our priorities straight…time to put an end to this disease.

What will it take? Appropriately enough, for a disease that hurts people so much…it’s going to take not just giving, but giving ‘til it hurts. If you believe (I know you do) in this cause…you and I must give generously– and convince others to give. (What is missing dinner out once a month or one new outfit a year compared to the cost of not caring?)

We all give in our own ways – you can donate money directly to the charities who fund

research that is saving lives, you can run for the cure, or volunteer your time at a local breast cancer charity. We girlfriends each do one or more of those things. In addition, for the past 4 years we’ve all purchased Brighton’s Power of Pink bracelets.

At Brighton Collectibles, their way of making a difference is to design and sell bracelets to raise money for charities. By this October 30th, money donated from Brighton bracelet sales will total nearly $2 million. The $5 per bracelet donations from Brighton and matching $5 donations from most of its retailers go to 100s of charities throughout the country including The Susan G. Komen Foundation, Breast Cancer Research Foundation (founded by Evelyn Lauder of Estee Lauder Cosmetics) and City of Hope.

With the new 2006 Power of Pink Bracelet, we (and you, if you join us in donating this way) can give women everywhere the gift of precious time. I know this cause speaks to your heart, so I want you to know that we’ll be at our Brighton retailers  to see and touch the latest jewelry that is making a difference in lives. You can buy a bracelet or give your own way…either way, I know you will do what’s right!
