Mom’s Day Off
Remember that 80s movie, Ferris Bueller’s
Day Off? It was about a teenager needing a break – well give me a
break, because (as Patti, Jessie, Karyn, I – and I’m sure you agree)
we moms need one a lot more. The idea for Mother’s Day dates all the
way back to ancient Greece and, for all we know, a celebration like
this might have existed even before recorded history. Think about
it…if you were “housekeeping” in a cave, wouldn’t you want to escape?
You would, unless someone who looked like Brad Pitt was doing your
cleaning for you – (Please tell our husbands we’re just kidding!)
Back in the ancient world, the guys were
hunters, and the women went out and did some gathering long before
the time of malls– to find pretty shells for necklaces and animal
skins for primitive purses.

These days, we’ve come a long way. But some things don’t change. Like
the basic human urge to accessorize! So we girlfriends will take a
break on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14th, and head to our
favorite
Brighton retailers. For us,
shopping therapy beats a day at the spa, and running around the store
to uncover new spring handbags and jewelry will keep us aerobically
fit! (At least we can tell ourselves that.)
We’ve also dropped not-so-subtle hints to
our family – in capital letters on notes taped to computer screens,
refrigerators, remotes …of what’s on our
wishlists. Getting & giving perfect Mother’s Day gifts will double
our fun – and yours, too! |

The
Aster Flower Tote’s on Patti’s list
– because children are the flowers in a mother’s garden. Jessie loves
the
Metamorphosis necklace – its
beautiful butterfly reminds her of the legend that every time a child
is born, a butterfly emerges from its cocoon. As for me, I’m asking
for the
Stitch in Time Frames – seeing my family’s faces is what
lights up my life!
There are a few more things on our
wishlists…like a shutdown of the
Lips-To-Hips Superhighway leading to Cellulite City – so whatever we
eat on Mother’s Day, calories won’t count! And speaking of highways,
we won’t be running errands… just watching chick flicks, and licking
chocolate off our fingers so we won’t smudge up our new Brighton
Mother’s Day treasures!

heart:
"I love people. I love
my family, my children, but inside myself is a place where I live all
alone and that's where you renew your springs that never dry up."
