Hi Elsie! To replace the battery, you must first remove the timepiece from the base. When you are looking at the clock, you can see a gunmetal colored ring around the face. This is the edge of the timepiece itself. If you run your fingernail or a small screw driver gently under that ring, the clock will pop out of the frame.
On the back of the clock face, if you run your finger around the outside of the metal plate (on the back), you should feel a small notch at the 12 o'clock point. Using your fingernail or a small screwdriver, lift the back plate off from this point. When you replace the battery just put the plate back on by putting that notch back at the 12 o'clock point and pressing down until you hear it click.
Purchased two (2) Geneva clocks. One arrived in perfect condition and the other did not work. Also, impossible to remove casing to change battery.
My best friend is a lover of Brighton, and I sent her this small, gorgeous clock for her birthday. She loved it!
